Annual Conference 2017
CWA ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2017:
'Constructed wetlands - natural systems for water management’
Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucestershire
The 13th Annual Conference ‘Constructed wetlands: natural systems for water management’ took place on the 27th & 28th September 2017, in the beautiful surroundings of Slimbridge Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire, UK.
Day one offered an ‘Introduction to Constructed Wetlands’ training event which involved lectures providing an overview of constructed wetlands, choosing and designing wetlands, wetlands for catchment management and SuDS. This was followed by an interactive group session of discussion, solving design problems and a tour around the treatment wetlands serving the Slimbridge Wetlands Centre.
A brief AGM was held and the day was agreeably rounded off by drinks and food at the nearby Tudor Arms pub.
Day two included three sessions of presentations; 'Integrating the benefits of wetlands as green infrastructure', 'Applications of wetlands as green infrastructure' and 'Technological developments'. A full list of presentations can be found here.
We would like to thank all entries to the poster competition. By a very narrow margin the winners were:
1st prize: David Austin 'Intensification of total phosphorous (TP) removal in surface flow (SF) wetlands: Geochemical augmentation with aluminum salts'
Runner up: Normaliza Noordin 'Constructed wetland in an urban ecosystem - Putrajaya case study'
The conference also saw the launch of the CWA's new guidelines for small sewage disposal systems. Please download a copy below.
